An equine behaviorist is NOT a trainer
Rather than developing a horse's skills or conditioning for a specific discipline, I will focus on your horse's fundamental needs and root causes of behavior. We will create a plan to help adjust or re-shape certain behaviors, but this process also requires a review of the horse's overall management and daily experiences.
Be prepared to take a holistic approach to solutions!
A Veterinary exam will likely be required
Many problematic behaviors are caused by pain or underlying physical issues, so I will require that the horse first be examined by a Veterinarian if any pain or physical issues are suspected. I cannot (should not) alter a horse's behavior if pain is the problem.
(If you have not yet consulted with a Veterinarian, you can continue with the history form to get underway but consulting may pause until after an exam.)
Discover the root cause(s) of the behavior
Once physical issues are eliminated or resolved, we explore the MANY potential reasons your horse is exhibiting certain behaviors. This requires an extremely detailed history on your horse.
I'll ask for contact information of your equine service providers & images or videos if you have them. Get ready to dig in and walk in your horse's shoes for a moment!
(Rest assured that everything we discuss is completely confidential!)
Develop a strategy and plan
This is where we will consider solutions to resolve the issues you've been having. Naturally, I will keep your goals in mind and we can work towards a solution that benefits both you and your horse.
Follow up(s) & Adjustments
Behaviors typically aren't isolated, so I consider the horse's entire wellbeing and responses to changes when implementing a plan. Very often solutions are found through the process of elimination. I offer support and guidance through those adjustments.
My aim is for you and your horse to work together safely and happily. I want to see you enjoy each other's company!
